BACK TO BASICS 

Our community needs to take a fresh, hard look at how we're teaching our students to read, write and do math, what many will remember as the Good Old 3 R's.  As a member of the Shawnee Mission School Board, I would strongly encourage a return to the 3 R's in small, but measurable, ways. Using computers is not always the most effective way to educate, and for students to learn. Simplify when possible to the Good Old Three R's.


 TRANSPARENCY

We need to focus on improving our public schools so every child can receive the best possible education.  I believe that starts with greater local control, enhanced academic standards, better pay for teachers, & more parental involvement.


Curriculum 

More STEM and hard skills, less CRT. Students need to understand that science/STEM play a role in their everyday lives, and my job is to help them see and understand this.  And then they can have a better grounding and be better informed about issues such as The Big Bang, Evolution, and Climate Change. 

Stop the incessant DEIB/CRT/SEL because I fear for the future of the USA and more closely as it directly affects my Children and Grandchildren and the thousands of others their ages across Kansas.  As a Teacher/Professor for over 35 years, the time I spend prepping for class instruction is valuable.  I would not want to have to use professional time to participate in training for the above: DEIB/CRT/SEL


United States of America

I want to help resurrect & improve the teaching of the Great History of our USA like when I was in school! It's clear to me it is in need of improvement.

CRT = Critical Race Theory

DEIB = Diversity Equity Inclusion Belonging

SEL = Social Emotional Learning

A search of any of the above three will show you how potentially dangerous these agenda are to our Children.  Why do we want to harm them from these political agendas?  I sure do not!  And I Will not support these agendas.

Me and my Family recently visited the above: Little Jerusalem Badlands State ParkAs a SMSD Board Member, I would encourage field trips such as to this beautiful spot in western Kansas.  An obvious connection to item 3. in my Platform. Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park
